Julian Sheldon
Julian Sheldon
I am a doctoral candidate in the Philosophy department at the University of Toronto. Previously, I completed my MPhil and BA (Hons) at the University of Sydney. I work in social and political, legal, and moral philosophy.
My current research aims to bridge the gap between the goals used to justify punishment and the concrete forms of punishment that intend to fulfil these goals. In particular, I defend prison abolitionism by showing that imprisonment fails to achieve its own goals.
I am also interested in the intersection of ethics and aesthetics, cultural politics, and Spinoza.Â
